AFA P2P

Hi. Thanks for joining me on my quest to end Alzheimer’s and the related degenerative cognitive disorders. So I am 1/4 of the way to my goal after starting just 5 days ago. More importantly, we broke through our initial goal of $2500 through a large generous donation( please see donations tab).

The first 3 “Runs” were done on a large lake- Lake Nockamixon, which is part of the Pennsylvania State Park system. Nice big lake with limited motor boat activity and restrictions above 20 hp /20 mph; that is great for those of us in non-powered vessels. We share the lake with a sailing club so on any given day, gotta watch out for those too as they have ultimate right of way. But what about other bodies of water? This Dagger touring kayak is capable of all sorts of activity, some of it such as ocean surfing is not going to generate miles but could generate a trip  to the ER. So, I am going to focus on what I know- Rivers!

The idea of paddling on a river bring images of  lazy Sunday afternoon with Weeping Willow trees lining the banks…. well thats pretty but a river is a lot more . It’s about navigating risk- rocks, fallen trees- STRAINERS- mini whirlpools that spin against the flow of the water and can suck you under the surface. Not to mention there are  eels, water snakes, sand bars, jet skis, fisherman and wildlife. Wildlife holds a place near and dear to me and I do my best not to disturb the various forms of water fowl that I encounter.

My next run is tomorrow, Thursday Oct 15th where I plan to paddle from Upper Black Eddy PA to New Hope PA- landing just north of “WING DAM” in Lambertville. (Remember, I am trying to avoid a trip to the ER, and crossing a cement dam with a small 10 yard opening in a field a large boulders spells trouble…. Look for my update as I continue my quest and paddle for Dad.
