OBITUARY

Carmen L. Martinez was born on January 21, 1946, in Santa Fe, NM, and was a long-time resident of Santa Cruz. She passed away on December 23, 2021, at the age of 75 from Alzheimer’s disease. Carmen was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents Erminio and Alejandrina Martinez of Guachupangue, her sister Mary Agnes Valdez (surviving husband Felix) of Velarde, and her brother Antonio J. Martinez (surviving wife Denise) of Guachupangue. Carmen is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 54 years, Rudolpho G. Martinez of Santa Cruz, her daughter Pamela T. Maestas, her son Vincent R. Martinez (wife Stephanie), and her son Matthew G. Martinez. She has six grandchildren, Cruz V. Martinez, Cara N. Maestas, Elena T. Archuleta, Khloe F. Martinez, Ezri H. Martinez, and Dorena C. Martinez. Carmen is survived by four sisters, Rose Musick, Dolores Gallegos (and husband James), Angela Esquibel, and Patricia Jaramillo (and husband Paul) and was preceded in death by her brother-in-law Henry Esquibel (husband of Angela).

Thank you to the wonderful caregivers who provided such special care to Carmen over the years, especially Diana Walker, Pauline Marquez, and David Martinez. Thank you to Ambercare as well.

Services included a public viewing at DeVargas Funeral Home and Crematory on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. The funeral mass was held at Holy Cross Church in Santa Cruz on Thursday, January 6, 2022 at 11:00 a.m., with the burial at the Holy Cross cemetery.
